比治山（ひじやま）公園のクスノキは、2014年、市民の情報提供により被爆樹木に登録されました。被爆樹木の特徴がはっきりと確認できる木で、爆心地側の枝は少なく、幹の表皮がウロコ状になっていて、そのほかの3方向はクスノキ本来の姿をしています。根元の根張りも爆心地側は少なく、反対側が発達して、幹の上の部分は、まるで爆心地の方向を指し示すように傾いています。
The camphor tree in Hijiyama Park was registered as a hibaku tree in 2014, based off information provided by a local citizen. It is a tree which clearly displays the characteristics found in hibaku trees: there are less branches on the side that faces the hypocenter and the bark on that side is scaly, while the other three sides are completely normal. The roots on the side that faces the hypocenter are also thin, as opposed to the well-developed roots on the other side. The top of the tree also leans, as if to point in the direction of the hypocenter.
