三篠（みささ）小学校の校庭には、大きなクスノキが両手を広げるようにして立っています。学校のシンボルとして、子どもたちにも地域の人にも、愛されている木です。近くの民家で被爆した兄弟クスノキの一本が、1954年、道路の拡幅工事に伴い、三篠小学校に移植されました。その日から、おおらかな姿で、子どもたちを見守りつづけています。ともに原爆を乗り越えて芽吹いた、もう一本の被爆クスノキは三篠神社に献木されました。

In the schoolyard of Misasa Elementary School stands a large camphor tree with its branches held out wide to the skies. This tree is the symbol of the school and is well loved by the children, as well as by the people of the community. Originally one half of a pair of camphor trees which survived the bombing in the yard of a local home, it was replanted at Misasa Elementary School in 1954 due to construction to widen the roads. Ever since, the tree has watched over the children with an easy grace. The other half of the pair of hibaku trees was donated to Misasa Shrine.
