被爆建物に登録されている山陽文徳殿（さんようぶんとくでん）は、1931年、江戸時代の歴史家、頼山陽（らいさんよう）の没後100年を記念して建設されました。西洋風の重厚な建物で、当時の写真にもソメイヨシノが写っています。爆風と熱線に耐えた建物とともに被爆したソメイヨシノは、幹が爆心地側に大きく傾いています。瀕死の状態ではありますが、土壌を改良し、腐った幹の内部に生じた不定根（ふていこん）を保護しながら、回復を待っています。
The Sanyō Buntoku-den Memorial Hall is a registered hibaku building, built in 1931 to commemorate 100 years since the death of Edo period historian Rai Sanyō. A stately building featuring a mix of eastern and western elements, you can see the cherry blossom trees in photos from the time of construction. These cherry blossoms survived, along with the building which withstood the intense heat of the bombing, but their trunks lean heavily in the direction of the hypocenter. While the trees were in grave condition, their recovery is expected thanks to improvements to the soil and the protection of adventitious roots, which grew inside the rotting trunks.
