爆心地から520ｍに位置する清住寺（せいじゅうじ）は、強烈な爆風によって建物が壊れ、あたり一帯は焼き尽くされました。本堂の前庭にあったナワシログミも、地上の部分はすべて焼けてしまい、株だけが残りました。もう枯れてしまったかと思われていた数年後、株から芽を吹き返してぐんぐん伸びていき、今の姿になりました。ナワシログミの近くには、原爆によって枯れたサクラも残されています。

At a distance of only 520 meters from the hypocenter, Seijū-ji Temple was completely destroyed in the intense blast winds and the entire area was lost to fires. The above-ground portion of the silverthorn that stood in the front garden of the temple was burned away, but the stump still remained. It was thought that the tree had completely withered, but a few years later, new buds began to grow from the stump to become the silverthorn you see today. Next to it, you can also find a cherry blossom tree that withered in the bombing.
